Insurgent Video Shows Mortar Attack on U.S. Base in South Baghdad

The Iraqi insurgent group Salahuddine al Ayyoubi Brigades released a short video on the Internet showing operatives firing two mortars on a south Baghdad U.S. army outpost.

Insurgent Video Shows U.S. Armor Targeted by Thermal Bombs

The Salahuddine al Ayyoubi Brigades released another short video showing two operatives lying in wait and then hurling two thermal bombs at a U.S. armored vehicle as it travelled through Baghdad's al Khadraa district.
The message accompanying the video claimed the armored vehicle was destroyed in the attack.

Second Issue of American Pro-Al Qaeda Magazine Out

The second issue of an English online magazine was released by Al Fursan Media. The 74-page publication, called Jihad Recollections, included articles on politics, the economy, religions, biographies, strategies and social, technological and health issues.

In addition to light features, like one on the latest mobile phones, it included an English version of all al Qaeda and other militant groups' propaganda released on the Internet.

This issues' main story was entitled "Obamaturk: The Secular Phenomenon" and dealt with U.S. President Barack Obama's speech before the Turkish Parliament last month. It compared the U.S. president to the founder of modern Turkey Kemal Ataturk, who according to the author, "dismantled the greatest nation God has ever let exist on earth."

There were also articles on the latest tape by Adam Ghadan, western reactions to the appearance of Abu Mansour al Amrki in Somali militants' video, tributes to the "architect of global jihad" Abu Mus'ab al Suri and al Qaeda figure Abu Laith al Libi.

Napalm Recipe Posted Online

A group linked to the "Global Islamic Resistance" called the "Abu Mus'ab al Suri Brigades," distributed a new seven-page illustrated document that suggested an easy recipe for the making of Napalm.

The recipe says it can me produced using common household items, such as soap and sugar. The manual was distributed on several jihadi Internet forums today along with videos showing the kind of damage this destructive substance can cause.

Iraqi Insurgent Groups Release Videos

Several Iraqi Insurgent groups released new videos of attacks they carried out.
The Army of al Mujahideen released a short video of an attack with an RPG-3 grenade on a U.S. MRAP in al Qayyara area.

Another Iraqi group, Dawa Wal Ribat, released a video showing a U.S. soldier shot by a sniper in what the group said was western Iraq.

And Ansar al Islam posted a short video of an IED attack on a U.S. convoy in Mosul.

Al Naqshabandiyah Army Release Third Compilation Video In Three Weeks

The Iraqi insurgent group Al Naqshabandiyah Army released a 35-minute video, which included pictures from what the group said was a workshop for making of "electronic valves" for their rockets that they called 'Sadeed'.

The 35-minute video also included footage of several attacks carried out by the group, as well as of a UAV that it says it shot down in al Anbar province.

The group also displayed what it described as a transmission device used by U.S. forces to spy on the militants. The footage showed a small camera mounted on a metal box with wires sticking out of it and an antenna wrapped around. The group urged other groups to look out for such devices and remove them wherever they find them.

The Naqshabandiyah Army is a group made of former Baathists and former Iraqi army officers. They are thought to work under the command of Saddam Hussein's former deputy Izzet Ibrahim al Douri and operate mainly around the Baghdad area.

Date stamp on the video shows that it's from May 10.

Former Iraqi VP Group Releases New Compilation Video

The Supreme Command for Jihad and Liberation, a group associated with former Iraqi Vice President Ezzat al Douri, released its fourth compilation video on the Internet. The 30-minute video was divided into four sections which included UAV, mortar, rocket and IED attacks. It included new footage of a UAV that was shot down by the group, the firing of 82 and 120 mm mortars, grad missiles being fired at various targets and the making and detonation of IEDs.

The Supreme Command for Jihad and Liberation is an Iraqi insurgent front comprised of around 23 militia groups formed in October 2007 and led by al Douri.

Iraqi Baath Party To Unveil Restructuring Plan

The Iraqi Baath Party announced the launch of a new initiative to revive the party and "rearrange the Baathist home."

The Internet statement, which was issued by the party's culture and information office, said a document providing details of the initiative would be soon distributed online.

"This will be a huge blow for the occupation. It will please our friends and annoy our foes," the statement said.

Hamas Iraqi Releases Video of Thermal Grenade Attack

The Iraqi insurgent group Hamas Iraq released a new clip depicting an attack on a U.S. armored vehicle in Diyala using an RKG 3 grenade.

There's been a noticeable increase in such attacks in recent months, indicating that the locally manufactured RKG 3 grenades may have become the weapon of preference of Iraqi groups.

Video on Use of Cluster Bombs by Russia to Be Released By Caucasus Leader Soon

"The Islamic Emirate of Caucasus" announced on many militant Islamist websites that it will soon release a video featuring a statement by the group's leader Dukho Omarov in which he will unveil details about the use of cluster bombs by the Russian forces against the civilian population in Chechnya.

Somali Militants Reject Government Islamic Law Agreement

The leader of the Somali militant group Shabab al Mujahdieen Sheikh Mukhtaar Abu Zubayr rejected the government's plan to implement Islamic law in the country and pledged to continue to fight till it is implemented not only in Somalia, but throughout the whole world.

"We shall continue our fight and the wars shall continue to rage until shari'a is implemented in all continents and until Muslims free Jerusalem," Mukhtar Abu Zubayr said. He also pledged to continue working on removing Shaikh Ahmad's government which does not deserve to be called "Islamic," according to him.

Abu Zubayr's statements came in a 10-minute audiotape distributed by Shabab al Mujahideen and aired on local radio stations in Somalia.

Shabab al Mujahideen claimed in an Internet statement two days ago they were close to taking full control of the capital Mogadishu. On one of the group's websites, it showed pictures of government soldiers captured by the militants. A caption accompanying a picture read, "Sharif is left with a bunch of criminals and a few tired old men to fight for him, how can he hope to defeat the mujahideen of Al Shabaab and Hizbul Islam?"

Arab Jihad Supporters Reach Out To Jihadists in Somalia

Arab fighters who wished to travel to Somalia posted several messages on Al Quimmah forum Thursday, asking Somali militants about ways to join their ranks.

"We want to join you and fight alongside you. This is our obligation and a religious duty towards you," said a member of the forum using the name "Glory Seeker" in a message entitled "An appeal to Shabab al Mujahideen."

The member also asked for directions about what was the best way to get to the Somali militants with minimal risk. "Please reply," he said at the end of his message.

On May 7, members on al Falojah forum had discussed joining the militants in Somalia. Many inquired about ways to get to Somalia and join the militant groups there. They were directed towards the website, Al Qimmah, which is run by Somali militants.

Deadline Looms For British Hostage

The deadline set by al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) for the release of radical cleric Sheikh Abu Qatada from the British Long Lartin Prison is approaching.

On April 26th, the group issued a statement threatening to kill British hostage Edwyn Dyer if the British government did not free Sheikh Abu Qatada within twenty days.

"On expiration of the deadline, the mujahideen will execute the British hostage if their demand was not met." Several reminders of the time left till the expiration of the deadline were subsequently posted online.

Abu Qatada was first arrested in the U.K. in 2005 under immigration rules, as the government sought to deport him to Jordan. He was released on bail but was returned to prison following reports that he was attempting to flee Britain.

In March he issued a statement from the top security prison of Long Lartin in which he made a discrete appeal for the militants to save him.

"It has become imperative for Muslims to know of the orders of Prophet Mohammed, peace and prayers upon him, on the necessity to free the prisoners with all means, expedients and schemes in your power to achieve this great religious duty," wrote Abu Qatada.

The Arab Islamic Resistance Release New Video

The Arab Islamic Resistance (AIR) released a new 10-minute video showing a military drill undertaken by the group's fighters under the name The "Zi-Qar Drill." The video showed a small number of fighters, including women and children, training in a mountain area on the use of firearms.

The Arab Islamic Resistance is a Lebanese Shiite militant group that presents itself as an Arab-oriented resistance alternative to the militant Shiite Lebanese Hizbollah group. It was set up last January by Shiite cleric Sayyed Moahammed al Husseiny, Secretary General of the Islamic-Arab Council.

The group is suspected to have fired a number of rockets towards the north of Israel last January. Hizbollah denied being behind the attack, but the AIR never claimed responsibility.

Chechen Militants Attack Russian Army Vehicle in New Video

A new video showed Chechen militants ambushing a Russian army truck near the village of Bamut in Chechnya. The operation was carried out by two men, who hid behind a wall until the vehicle was close enough, and then sprayed the driver's compartment with bullets, killing those who were onboard and causing the vehicle to stop.

Other shots in the tape showed a group of militants piled onto the back of the truck, eating crisps and driving through a rural area.

The five-minute video is dated April 21st 2009.
