Obama Pep Rally

It's just another Obama pep rally video -- we've seen plenty of them -- but what's weird to me is the moment halfway through when, acting as one, the crowd suddenly stops cheering and applauding and brings the signs down just as Obama lowers his tone into his serious, profound voice (nevermind that he's not saying anything profound). It's as if he has them trained in political Pavlovian response.

One Degree Of Kevin Bacon

Actor Kevin Bacon is supporting John Edwards and he scares Iowans at an Edwards rally by singing "Footloose."

Sound Bite: "Cut loose . . . Footloose . . . kick off your Sunday shoes."

Snow Job

Here's another one of those treacly, faux-casual Romney family clips.

In this episode Mitt shovels snow off the deck at the Romney ski manse as his wife and kids tell us how hardworking and energetic he is -- "Even when we're trying to relax, he's able to relax but then he has to have a project."

The whitest family in America then goes out and plays in the snow: Mitt gives a hesitant grandkid's sled a hearty push -- "NOOO!!!" Mitt goes flying down the hill head first. One of Mitt's kids tackles him and knocks him head over heels. Mitt has new gloves but he loves to wear his old duct-taped pair.

Tim Robbins Stumps For Edwards

Academy Award winner Tim Robbins joins the Edwards "Main Street Express" bus tour in Iowa and speaks to a town hall meeting in Des Moines. Robbins says the media is bamboozling voters and that Edwards has "the best chance to beat Republicans in the general election."

Sound Bite: "Eight months ago with eight viable Democratic candidates running, we were being sold a fiction that this was a two-candidate race. Why? No one had voted yet. We're the voters. We decide who the frontrunner is."

Mudslinging Deconstructed

Jackie Broyles and Dunlap -- the Red State Update boys -- take a look at recent campaign mudslinging.

Sound Bite: "Hillary Clinton said that Obama sold cocaine in kindergarten at a radical Muslim school to Oprah Winfrey."

Fa-la-la-la-Ron

Ron Paul "takes time out" from campaigning to put on a red sweater and wish everybody a Merry Christmas -- and, yes, he says Christmas -- in a TV ad.

Keep The Faith

African-American religious leaders (please don't call them the "religious left") testify for Barack Obama at a gathering in Charleston, SC.

Sound Bite: [Rev. Dr. Joseph E. Lowery] "There's bad crazy and there's good crazy . . . So I think America today is ready to do that what some folk would call crazy but it's a good crazy. It's a good crazy. And God takes care of folks who are good crazy."

RoboHeckler

It's getting pretty weird out there on the campaign trail. As Bill Clinton spoke yesterday at the University of Iowa, he was heckled by some dude dressed as a robot.

Edwards: "We're At Crunch Time Now"

Even though he lags Clinton and Obama in the national polls, John Edwards is very competitive in Iowa. Here he fires up the troops in Des Moines before setting out on -- what else -- another bus tour of the state.

Sound Bite: "This cause is about making certain that America rises, that America rises up again. That America rises up in a way that not just a few do well but that everybody in this country does well."

Kuchinich: "I'm the Independent Democrat"

Dennis Kucinich tackles the "electability" issue with a line that should be a song lyric: "If you don't vote your heart, your heart never wins."
