(CBS News) Apple's iPhone will celebrate its 5-year anniversary Friday. To mark the industry-changing smartphone's birthday, Strategy Analytics announced research suggesting that the company has raked in $150 billion in iPhone sales to date.
"Apple's first iPhone was launched commercially in the United States on June 29, 2007. Between June 2007 and June 2012, we estimate the iPhone family of models has generated $150 billion of cumulative revenues worldwide for Apple. This is an impressive achievement and it illustrates just how popular the iPhone has become during the past five years," Neil Shah, Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics, said in a press release.Continue »
(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - Virgin Mobile, the prepaid, no-contract phone service offered by Sprint, announced Thursday that it will start selling Apple's iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S on June 29, with services starting as low as $30 a month.
That sounds amazing, right? Here's the catch. The base model iPhone 4 will set you back $549 upfront, unlike a contract-based purchase which usually subsidies half the cost.

(CBS/AP) Facebook announced Thursday that the company will unveil a new camera app for the iPhone.
Simply called Camera, the app can be downloaded from Apple's App Store and works like most other camera applications for smart phones. To take a photo, you tap a camera icon in the upper left corner of your screen, aim and shoot. You can then add filters, crop or tilt your photo, and share it on Facebook.Continue »

(CBS News) Apple and its main supplier Foxconn have agreed to share the cost of improvements to be made at the factories that manufacture iPads and iPhones.
Foxconn chief executive officer Terry Gou confirmed the agreement with Reuters Thursday.
"We've discovered that this (improving factory conditions) is not a cost. It is a competitive strength," Gou told Reuters Thursday at a ground-breaking ceremony in Shanghai. "I believe Apple sees this as a competitive strength along with us, and so we will split the initial costs."Continue »
