(CBS News) A month before Clint Eastwood spoke to an empty chair at the Republican National Convention, he chatted with journalist Tom Junod of Esquire magazine.

The interview touched upon Eastwood's upcoming film, "Trouble with the Curve" and his family's reality TV series, "Eastwood and Company." And not surprisingly, the conversation also turned to politics and President Barack Obama.

(CBS News) The fantasy series "Game of Thrones" was the big winner Saturday at the creative arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, taking home six honors. But who will score big when the major awards are handed out live at Sunday's prime-time Emmy ceremony?

When the Emmy nominations were announced in July, "Mad Men" led the pack with 17 Emmy nominations, while the miniseries "American Horror Story" received a matching 17 award nods, including an acting nomination for star Connie Britton.

ZZ Top: Getting it right with the "same three guys"

(CBS News) "It's the same three guys, and as the story goes, the same three chords," Billy Gibbons said while on stage at the intimate iHeartRadio Theater this week in New York.

Gibbons, of course, is referring to ZZ Top and its founding members Dusty Hill and Frank Beard, who have been together for more than 42 years. The same three guys from the start is kind of an anomaly in the music business.

"The Master" is an acting masterpiece, critics say

(CBS News) One of the most highly-anticipated movies of the year, "The Master," opens today, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams.

Filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson is behind the 1950s drama about a naval veteran who returns to a home that World War II unsettled and becomes influenced by a new faith-based organization.

"Arbitrage": Critics rate Richard Gere's new film

(CBS News) Richard Gere is back in the shoes of an investor powerhouse, portraying fictional New York hedge fund magnate Robert Miller in "Arbitrage," which hits theaters today.

The 63-year-old "Pretty Woman" actor stars alongside Susan Sarandon and Tim Roth in the drama about a man desperate to complete the sale of his trading empire. He ends up making a mistake that forces him to turn to an unlikely person for help. Gere and Sarandon previously appeared together on the big screen in the 2004 romantic comedy "Shall We Dance."

(CBS News) Kelly Rutherford got personal on "The View" Thursday, breaking down in tears as she opened up about her custody war with ex-husband Daniel Giersch.

A Los Angeles judge ruled in August that the former couple's children, Hermes, 5, and Helena, 3, will now live with Giersch in France. The German businessman is barred from traveling to the U.S. because of a revoked visa. He now calls France home, so Rutherford has to travel frequently to see her children because Giersch can't enter the U.S.

Kathy Bates undergoes double mastectomy
