WASHINGTON - Homeland Security Chief Janet Napolitano said today she had no conversations with her one-time chief of staff former Arizona US Attorney Dennis Burke, about the Fast and Furious scandal that led to Burke's resignation. Burke was Napolitano's Chief of Staff when she governor of Arizona. He's the only government official to step down in the wake of the controversial operation that allowed thousands of weapons to be sold to traffickers supplying Mexican drug cartels.

Obama responds to questions re: Fast and Furious

President Obama today responded to a question about Fast and Furious, the controversial ATF program which allowed thousands of weapons into the hands of traffickers for Mexican drug cartels. In an interview with ABC News, Mr. Obama said, "People who have screwed up will be held accountable."

Senate nixes future gun-running stings

According to an ABC News transcript of the president's interview with Senior White House Correspondent Jake Tapper, Mr. Obama said, "Our overarching goal consistently has been to say we've got a responsibility not only to stop drugs from flowing north, we've also got a responsibility to make sure we are not helping to either arm or finance these drug cartels in Mexico."

The Department of Justice has denied speculation that there was a missing third weapon at the murder scene of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry, which sparked the ATF's Fast and Furious scandal.

The Justice Department released a new statement Monday night regarding evidence in the murder of a Border Patrol Agent connected to the Fast and Furious scandal. The statement said "reports of a third gun recovered from the perpetrators at the scene ... are false."

Today, the Republican-led House Oversight Committee sent a wide-ranging documents subpoena to Attorney General Eric Holder. It asks for all communications regarding Fast and Furious or any other Phoenix-based firearms trafficking case involving Holder and 15 other senior Justice Department officials.

In a letter to Congress, Attorney General Eric Holder has gone on the record with the most details yet about what he and other Justice Department officials knew about ATF's Fast and Furious operation, even though memos surfaced earlier this week showing multiple briefing memos mentioning Fast and Furious were sent to him as early as July of last year.
