'Gunwalker' guns linked to helicopter shooting

CBS News has learned that the recent case of a Mexican military helicopter forced to land after it was fired upon is linked to the ATF Fast and Furious "gunwalker" operation.

Drug cartel suspects on the ground shot at Mexican government helicopters two weeks ago in western Mexico, forcing one chopper to land. Authorities seized more than 70 assault rifles and other weapons from the suspects.

For-profit college students learn hard lessons

NEW YORK - You've seen the ads - "for-profit" colleges often promise credit for life experience and offer convenient online classes. Students are flocking to them. Enrollment in them is up 225 percent over ten years-- to more than 1.8 million students.

But some claim the "for-profits" saddle students with huge debts, and do little to get them jobs. As CBS News chief investigative correspondent Armen Keteyian reports, the federal government today announced it's cracking down on them.

Texas rape kit bill awaits Gov. Perry's signature

NEW YORK - A bill requiring all rape kits to be tested in the state of Texas just needs the signature of the state's Governor Rick Perry according to a spokesperson for Ft. Worth Senator Wendy Davis.

The state Senator says she wrote the bill after a Emmy Award winning CBS News investigation uncovered over 5,000 untested rape kits in the San Antonio Police Department.

Approx. 100 guns stolen from Pennsylvania home

About 100 firearms were stolen from a home in a Philadelphia suburb last Friday according to a document obtained by CBS News.

The victim, a resident of Chester, PA, told police that approximately 100 guns including various calibers of semiautomatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, and rifles were taken during the burglary, according to a Delaware County officer safety advisory.

Thousands of Elevators Running With Expired Permits

Los Angeles (KCBS)- With a hidden camera at South Coast Plaza Los Angeles affiliate KCBS found an elevator inspection permit that had expired two years ago in 2009. At County-USC Medical Center they found an elevator permit that had expired more than a year ago. And that was just the tip of the iceberg---KCBS found thousands of elevators with expired inspection permits around the Los Angeles area.

Walmart Scam Uncovered

Sacramento (KOVR)- Walmart tops the list of Fortune 500 companies, bringing in the most revenue. But a hidden camera investigation by Sacramento affiliate KOVR uncovered a practice that may be adding to those profits. They caught Walmart shortchanging customers coast to coast when they return items using gift receipts, a practice that has some customers and consumer advocates outraged.
