The Alabama Forestry Commission put 11 northeast counties (Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, DeKalb,Etowah, Jackson, Madison, Marshall, St. Clair and Talladega) under a fire alert on March 9, 2006.

The alert means no permits for outdoor burning will be issued in these counties until further notice.Earlier this week, the commission placed Baldwin, Mobile and Washington counties in south Alabama under fire alert.

There have been 504 wildfires in Alabama so far in March.
