Alabama Primary: June 1 Winner: Sen. John Kerry Delegates: 62 total; 54 pledged, 8 unpledged Pledged delegates are determined by primary or caucus votes. Unpledged delegates, or "superdelegates," are elected officials and other party leaders who serve as delegates by virtue of their stature. These delegates aren't bound to primary or caucus results in their respective states, and can change their minds whenever they like.
