CBS News Race Outlook: Kennedy was expected to win election easily. He was opposed by Chase, who has lost three previous election bids. Chase wanted to make this race about immigration, but in liberal Massachusetts, it was not clear that his hard-line stance would gain any traction. Kennedy’s closest election since taking office was in 1994 against current Gov. Mitt Romney when he won with 58 percent of the vote. That was Kennedy’s lowest vote percentage since 1962 when he won with 55 percent of the vote.
