CBS NEWS PROJECTS SEN. ROBERT BYRD WINNER

Democrat Robert Byrd (Incumbent)
vs.
Republican John Raese

CBS News Race Outlook: Byrd was re-elected in 2000 with 78 percent of the vote and was seeking his ninth full-term in the Senate. He voted against the resolution authorizing the use of military force against Iraq. An outspoken critic of the Bush Administration, Byrd has said, "I’ve never seen an administration so discourteous, so arrogant toward the legislative branch, as this one is." Raese said that we have good reasons to be in Iraq and we should stay there and finish the job. Byrd is well-known for bringing a lot of government money home to West Virginia – one of the reasons he remains popular.
