CBS NEWS PROJECTS SEN. MARIA CANTWELLWINNER

Democrat Maria Cantwell (Incumbent)
vs.
Republican Mike McGavick

CBS News Race Outlook: Cantwell won by fewer than 2,500 votes in 2000 and she was considered one of the most vulnerable Democrats this time around. She voted for taking military action in Iraq. McGavick was an aide to Sen. Slade Gorton, who Cantwell ousted in 2000. Cantwell’s net worth was not what it used to be (RealNetworks’ stock price has plummeted since 2000) so a self-financed campaign was thought more difficult this time around.
