CBS News Race Outlook: This is a solidly Democratic state (Kerry won by 20 percentage points), but Chafee is a moderate Republican and had been tough to beat. Top Republicans and Democrats came out in support of the candidates: John McCain appeared in a TV spot for Chafee; Bill Clinton hosted a fundraiser for Whitehouse. Whitehouse wants to repeal the Bush tax cuts and get the troops out of Iraq this year.
