CBS News Race Outlook: New Mexico was a presidential battleground in 2000 (Gore won by 365 votes) and 2004 (Bush won by 5,988) but Bingaman was heavily favored. McCulloch won 50 percent of the vote in a three-way primary which included a 20-year state Senator and a sitting city council member from Santa Fe.
