Republican Trent Lott (Incumbent)


CBS News Race Outlook: Mississippi is solidly Republican. Trent Lott was expected to win this easily over State Rep. Fleming, an abstinence educator and former Young Democrats state president. Fleming won the Democratic primary runoff by an almost 2-to-1 margin. He criticized Lott for his vote against a minimum wage increase saying, "Trent Lott has proven once again that he does not have the best interest of Mississippi at heart." According to The Hill, there has been buzz on and off Capitol Hill about the prospect of Lott returning to a Senate leadership position next year.
