Wyoming CBS NEWS PROJECTS DAVE FREUDENTHALWINNER Democrat Dave Freudenthal (Incumbent) vs. Republican Ray Hunkins Freudenthal was expected to win reelection easily despite the state’s Republican leanings. Freudenthal, while a Democrat, favors the death penalty, opposes gun control and is against an income tax for the state. He is popular and benefits from a good state economy. Hunkins had criticized the governor for not diversifying Wyoming’s economy. He said on his Web site, "… energy and big government are the only sectors that are expanding. All other sectors of our economy are either stagnant or contracting." Hunkins had proposal to cut the state property taxes but faces an uphill battle against a popular incumbent.
