Massachusetts CBS NEWS PROJECTS DEVAL PATRICKWINNER Democrat Deval Patrick vs. Republican Kerry Healey (Open seat) Incumbent Republican Mitt Romney is not running for reelection and may run for president in 2008. In a state where both of its Senators and all 10 of its U.S. Representatives are Democrats, a Democrat has not won the Governor’s seat since Michael Dukakis in 1986. Patrick, an African-American, was endorsed by the Mass. Democratic Party in the primary, but he was considered the most liberal of the three Democrats running. Healey, a wealthy woman, was Romney’s running mate in 2002. Healey ran TV ads blasting Democrats in general for their "big-spending agenda."
