Minnesota

Minnesota voters approved a recall law in 1996, if the official is guilty of: "serious malfeasance or nonfeasance during the term of office in the performance of the duties of the office or conviction during the term of office of a serious crime." To hold a recall election, the petitioner must have signatures totaling 25 percent of the votes cast for that position in the last election. Judicial officers, state executive officers and legislators are exempt from recall. The petition may not circulate for longer than 90 days. A separate special election is held for a successor.
