On April 2, 2006, Indiana began observing daylight-saving time statewide for the first time in more than 30 years.
The state has been a patchwork of time zones: 77
counties observed Eastern time but didn't change clocks; five were on Eastern time and unofficially observed daylight-saving time, and 10 were on Central time, observing daylight-saving.
The statewide change, approved by lawmakers in 2005, made it the 48th state to observe daylight time; Hawaii and most of Arizona are the only holdouts.
