The defense called Mary Holzer, a paralegal at a law firm that handled a lawsuit the accuser's family brought against J.C. Penney.

Holzer said the mother at one point told her the injuries she claimed to have received from the security guards at the store were in fact inflicted by her then-husband. Holzer said she told the mother she could not lie, and should drop the suit.

The mother, Holzer said, then claimed that her brother-in-law is in the Mexican Mafia and "that she knows where I live and they would come and kill me and my 9-year-old daughter."

She also said the mother told her the children were taking acting classes because, "she wanted them to become good actors so she could tell them what to say.”

Under cross-examination by prosecutor Ron Zonen, Holzer said she took the mother to a family-law lawyer after she'd separated from her husband. Zonen asked if she was concerned for her and her daughter's safety in doing so, and she replied no.

The mother called as recently as three months ago, the witness said on redirect, looking to plan a girls' weekend. She also spoke about Jackson's trial during the call. Holzer said the mother told her, “Michael Jackson was no longer her savior, he was now the devil.”
