Joshua Bolten was named by President Bush to replace Andrew Card as White House chief of staff following Card's resignation on March 28, 2006. Card had been chief of staff from the first day of Mr. Bush's presidency. Bolten is widely experienced in Washington, both on Capitol Hill and at the White House, where he was deputy chief of staff for policy before becoming director of the Office of Management and Budget. Prior to that, Bolten served as policy director of the Bush-Cheney presidential campaign. He was executive director, Legal and Government Affairs, Goldman Sachs International in London from 1994-1999. Bolten also worked for former President George H.W. Bush, serving for three years as general counsel to the U.S. Trade Representative and one year in the White House as deputy assistant to the president for legislative affairs. Bolten received his bachelor's degree from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and his law degree from Stanford Law School.
