Ambassador Susan C. Schwab, Deputy United States Trade Representative, was nominated to serve as the United States Trade Representative on April 18, 2006. She had been confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate as Deputy USTR on November 10, 2005. She moved up to the top job to replace Rob Portman, who Mr. Bush nominated to become the new Director of the Office of Management and Budget. As trade representative, she will carry the rank of ambassador, and serve as the chief U.S. negotiator in trade talks with other nations. Schwab received a bachelor's degree from Williams College, a Master's degree in development policy from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. in public administration and international business from George Washington University.
