Born: Jan. 10, 1930, in Los Angeles, to Roy. O. Disney and Edna Francis Disney
Education: Graduated from Pomona College in 1951, English major
Career: After graduating from college, Roy E. Disney worked on the television series "Dragnet" before joining the Disney company 1954. His father was the company's business manager, and Walt Disney was his uncle. He joined the Disney Company Board in 1957.
Roy E. Disney is the last family member to be active in the company. He stepped down as vice chairman of the board of directors on Nov. 30, 2003, and called on Chairman and Chief Executive Michael Eisner to resign in a scathing letter. He also quit as chairman of the company's animation division.
He had also resigned from the board in 1984, to initiate a stock battle for the company then headed by Ron Miller, Walt Disney's son-in-law. He was later reinstated. He was instrumental in bringing Eisner and Frank Wells to run the company during this period.
Roy E. Disney now says Eisner is to blame for embarrassing management missteps, a tumbling stock price and a focus on short-term profits over the company's core mission. He and another former board member, Stanley Gold, have waged an aggressive campaign, which includes the Web site savedisney.com, to oust Eisner.
Personal: Married in 1955, with four children
