Head trauma is one of the most common childhood injuries. It accounts for more than 500,000 emergency department visits, 95,000 hospital visits, 29,000 permanent disabilities and 7,000 deaths a year.
About one-third of all pediatric injury cases are related to brain injury. It is estimated by The National Pediatric Trauma Registry that each year, more than 30,000 American children sustain permanent disabilities as a result of such injuries.
