Gary Hart was a senator from Colorado between 1975 and 1987. He ran for president in 1984, but ended up losing the Democratic nomination to Walter Mondale, who went on to be defeated by President Ronald Reagan.

Hart also ran for the nomination in 1988, but lost it to Michael Dukakis, in part because of a sex scandal.

It all started with a phone call to the Miami Herald's Tom Fiedler, who had actually written a column defending vague media accusations about Hart's womanizing.

The anonymous caller disagreed with Fiedler's opinion, and said that her friend was traveling to Washington from Miami to spend a weekend with Hart, who was a married man.

In a controversial move, Herald reporters staked out Hart's townhouse around the clock, and finally spotted the Senator with Donna Rice, a part-time Miami model. The ensuing report sent the media into frenzy, and Hart's team into damage control.

However, after it was revealed that Hart and Rice were photographed on a Bimini yacht, appropriately named "Monkey Business,"(photo shown above) Hart had to fess up to the affair, and his shot at the presidency was ruined.
