Anatomical and brain imagery studies show differences in the way the brain of a dyslexic person develops and functions, as opposed to a person who reads without difficulty.
A formal evaluation is needed to discover if a person is dyslexic. The evaluation determines whether or not a person is reading at the expected level. It also takes into account the individual's family background or history of dyslexia.
The testing can be conducted by trained schools or specialists. Click on the Additional Resources link in the left column for more information.
