Sexual assault is a complex and delicate issue.

Since the advent of DNA testing it has become easier to prove some cases, but others, such as instances of date rape, can boil down to one person's word against another's. And its victims may experience not only physical and mental damage, but also shame, making rape the most underreported violent crime in the United States.

But among those cases that do get recorded, there have been positive developments – since 1993, rape/sexual assault has fallen by over 60 percent according to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN).
