How did Democrats arrive at the Kerry-Edwards ticket? Triumphing over a field that started with 10 candidates, Sen. John Kerry cemented the presidential nomination with a string of Super Tuesday wins, driving his last serious rival, Sen. John Edwards, from the race. He later chose Edwards as his running mate. Meanwhile, as grassroots candidate Howard Dean exited, Ralph Nader entered the fray as an independent, rejecting claims that his longshot candidacy would merely siphon enough votes from the Democrats to ensure President Bush's re-election.
