Detroit's automakers are seeking billions of dollars in government aid and asking Congress to help them survive the steepest economic slide in decades.
They may end up getting taxpayers' money for a simple reason:
jobs.
Top executives with General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC, along with the president of the United Auto Workers, made their pleas to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, for a rescue package.
