Capt. Ian P. Weikel, 31, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died in Balad, Iraq on April 18, 2006, from injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations in Baghdad.
Weikel was assigned to the 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
