Miers, who resigned as White House Counsel in January of 2007, is said to have first raised the idea of replacing all 93 federal prosecutors at the beginning of President Bush's second term.
Miers, a Dallas native, moved to Washington to work in the Bush administration. President Bush nominated her on October 3, 2005 for Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. The nomination was met with opposition from conservative groups and others unhappy with her credentials, andlater that month, Mr. Bush withdrew her nomination, saying Miers had asked him to do so.
