Amanda Bowden, 19, was charged on Feb. 20, 2013 after she allegedly made false threats to carry out a mass shooting and bombing at Gateway Community College in New Haven, Conn. Federal authorities said she intended "to carry out a suicidal mass murder at a community college" in a similar style to the December 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. Bowden told investigators she was not actually planning any shooting or bombing, but authorities said her text messages with an undercover agent and a supporting witness accurately described how to construct a homemade napalm bomb.
