Tia Shorts, Miss Maryland 2004, was charged in a drug case involving cocaine and pleaded guilty to obstructing a police investigation in Montgomery County Circuit Court. Although originally charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine and drug possession, she was offered a plea deal resulting in the lesser charge. Shorts boyfriend, his brother and their 67-year-old mother were also arrested in the case. Short was named "Miss Congeniality" by her fellow contestants in the '04 Miss USA pageant.
