Pedro Hernandez, 51, is charged with killing 6-year-old Etan Patz in 1979 after he confessed to the crime in May 2012. Investigators said he told them he was a teenage stock clerk at a convenience store when Etan disappeared on his way to school on May 25, 1979. He allegedly said he lured the child to the basement with the promise of a soda, choked him and left his body in a bag of trash about a block away.

On Nov. 15, 2012, his lawyer Harvey Fishbein said in court that Hernandez made a false confession and will plead not guilty in slaying the boy. He was ordered held without bail until his next court date set for Dec. 12, 2012.
