Anne Derussy, of Munich, Germany, removes her purse from a branch where she had hung it while being photographed by a companion in front of Christo's "The Gates" Feb. 12, 2005, in New York's Central Park. Derussy, a native of France now living in Germany, came to New York expressly to see "The Gates, " a series of 7,500 16-foot-high orange gates with saffron fabric suspended from them along 23 miles of Central Park's footpaths.
