In December 2010 the Library of Congress announced 25 titles to be preserved as part of the National Film Registry, a compendium of motion pictures judged to be culturally, historically or aesthetically significant. Films on the Registry, which was launched in 1989, range from Hollywood studio productions to indie films, documentaries and newsreels, animation, advertising and music videos.
