There's no doubt that older patients tend to have more complicated medical problems. But that doesn't mean your primary-care doctor should have to send you off to a specialist every time you have a specific complaint. In addition to being inconvenient, that can be life-threatening - because doctors aren't always good about coordinating care with one another.
Specialist care certainly has its place. But if your doctor seems perplexed by your aging body, that's a problem.
