This before-and-after comparison of aerial views of Seaside Heights, N.J., shows the destruction caused by the Superstorm Sandy.

The Jersey Shore tourist town was hit hard, with the amusement park on the water completely destroyed. Rides that once crowned a pier were dumped into the ocean. Some homes were smashed, and others were partially buried in sand.

N.J. Governor Chris Christie described the devastation on the Jersey coast as "unthinkable."
