Before-and-after views of Sandy destruction

This replica of the 18th-century tall ship HMS Bounty, constructed for the 1962 movie "Mutiny on the Bounty," ran into Hurricane Sandy off the coast of North Carolina as the storm moved up the East Coast.

The ship took on water and its engines failed. The crew abandoned ship about 145 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras in two life rafts. Another crew member was plucked from the ocean by the Coast Guard but later died. A search was still underway for the captain.
