Israel Keyes, Alaska barista murder suspect, killed Vermont couple, and maybe five other people, authorities say
(CBS/AP) ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Authorities say they are confident that Israel Keyes, the man who committed suicide in his jail cell Sunday after being accused of killing an Alaska barista, also killed a Vermont couple who went missing last year.
At a news conference in Vermont on Monday afternoon, federal and state investigators said the 34-year-old Keyes provided details about the June 2011 abduction of Bill and Lorraine Currier that authorities had not released to the public.
Their bodies have never been found.
Authorities said Keyes also indicated he killed four others in Washington state and one person in New York state, but didn't give the victims' names.
Keyes was to stand trial in March in an Alasaka federal court for the death of 18-year-old Samantha Koenig, who was abducted from a coffee kiosk in the city last February. He was facing a possible death sentence, before taking his own life in an Anchorage jail.
