Teen charged with attempted murder in Ohio Craigslist case
(CBS/WOIO/AP) CALDWELL, Ohio - A 16-year-old boy arrested in connection with a "Craigslist killing" in Southern Ohio was charged Friday with one count of attempted murder and one count of complicity in attempted murder.
Brogan Rafferty, a student at Stow-Munroe Falls High School, was arrested Wednesday and remains in police custody, reports CBS affiliate WOIO.
"The investigation is moving swiftly but also deliberately," Noble County Sheriff Stephen Hannum and Prosecutor Clifford Sickler said in a news release announcing the charges.
The charges follow the shooting of a South Carolina man who told police he'd been attacked while following up a job advertisement on Craigslist.
The victim told police the ad was a job offer for a male to care for cattle on a 688 acre property, reports WOIO. He says upon meeting up with Rafferty and another man, he followed them to a heavily wooded area where he found a gun being pointed at his head.
Sheriff Hannum says the victim was shot in the arm but managed to escape and go to police, who later found a hand-dug grave that they believe had been intended for him.
On Tuesday, cadaver dogs searching the same area found the body of a Florida man in a remote grave, Hannum said. Police believe the man in the grave was lured by the same ad.
Hannum and the prosecutor, Sickler, said no further information would be released because a judge on Friday had issued a gag order.
The Akron Beacon Journal identified the second suspect as a 52-year-old man from Akron, Ohio. WOIO reports he was arrested but had not been charged.
