SCEA and Pros Vs. GIJoes

We at Gamecore are not particularly fond of posting press releases sent out by eager public relations (pr) folks about some game related thing. But every so often we come across one that makes us glad to be gamers.

I try my best to give back to the community whenever I can and it's good to know that companies like Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) do the same as well. We always hear stories about how some kid from somewherecity USA has put together a drive to send stuff to our brave and courageous troops. This particular story has to do with a game company giant SCEA and the Pros. Vs. GiJoes organization.

Recently at the 2009 MLB All-Star FanFest in St. Louis, SCEA reached across the seas to Camp Virginia in Kuwait, where army Specialist Danielle Pisack (Selden, NY) was treated to a special affair. She got the unique opportunity to have a video game showdown with the American League All-Star pitcher, Edwin Jackson, in PlayStation 3's (PS3) MLB 09: The Show. Danielle was able to meet him via webcam and both where able to watch the grueling competitive expressions of the other as they had a friendly match.

Furthermore Pisack's family was flown in to St. Louis to watch her take on the Detroit Tiger's starting pitcher and to catch up with their daughter via webcam. The online showdown and family reunion took place at the PlayStation Patrol truck during the event.

But with the leave no man behind attitude of the military, you can rest assured that Danielle wasn't alone. In fact she had 20 members of the Missouri National Guard (MNG) there cheering her on. I guess this was the one time that the All-Star (Jackson) was only second string. A select few of the MNG had the opportunity to battle it out with each other as well as against the FanFest attendees in a two-inning game of MLB 09 The Show. They competed for tickets to the Home Run Derby and the All-Star game.

Though Danielle was the star of the show, she wasn't the only one that got a chance to match skills with Jackson. Richy Kohler, the top troop also won a shot to go head to head with him predominantly for bragging rights.

PlayStation sponsored the event in partnership with the Pro Vs. GIJoe organization. For more information about the organization, visit http://www.prosvsgijoes.org. For a full review of MLB 09: The Show for PS3 please visit MLB 09 The Show.
