Two Women Critically Hurt in Bee Attack

A swarm of bees attacked at least four people in Phoenix Thursday, stinging two women more than a 100 times each and leaving them in critical condition, reports CBS affiliate KPHO-TV.

"The women were screaming and they were they couldn't even flail their arms or anything. They just were frozen," Tony Garcia, a neighbor who tried to help, told KPHO.

Another man who rushed in to help also got attacked, but not before getting hold of a fire extinguisher, which he passed on to Garcia.

"They looked like that guy in the Guinness Book of World Records. They were just covered head to toe -- no skin exposed, their faces weren't exposed, their clothes weren't exposed, the bees were in their hair - they were just completely covered," said Garcia.

Garcia said he was attacked himself after he started spraying the extinguisher at the two women.

Firefighters eventually managed to rescue the women and sprayed the nearby bee hive with foam to kill the bees.

The women and the unnamed man were all taken to the hospital following the attack, according to the Associated Press.
